Flower stakes are designed to be hammered into the ground to provide sturdy support for tall flowering stems and even tree saplings and tomato plants.
Flower stakes are sharpened to a “v” at the top to make it easy to hammer them into the ground without the wood splitting. They are sharpened to a blunt point at the ground end so they go in easily without the point bending or breaking off.
Hazel is not durable in the ground but it should last outside for a couple of years before rotting or turning into good kindling. Hazel is stronger, more flexible and less brittle than most imported bamboo stakes.
These stakes are made from coppiced hazel, sustainably grown and handmade in the Opotiki district.
